Our Trek
GHAP launched its first pilot project sending an Assessment Team to Ilula Lutheran Hospital, a facility owned by the Iringa Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.

While visiting GHM’s offices in August, General Secretary Nayman Chavalla (at right in the blue Global Health polo shirt) expressed his desire to participate in the pilot phase of GHAP’s development. At Chavalla’s request, the Assessment Team of Magdeline Aagard, Bill Van Essendelft and Cindy Wilke went to Ilula February 5 – 10, 2008.  The team conducted a general needs assessment with specific attention to the leadership and organizational structure.

Other Projects
At the request of President Reverend Thomas Nyiwe, GHAP sent a small team in February 2008 to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cameroon. Doctors Johannes and Martha Aas and Reverend Jerry Paul worked with the Church Board on a governance structure for the Church’s hospitals.  The project has moved into phase II based on the initial assessment.  Phase II consists of an overall assessment of the financial systems with recommendations regarding how they can enhance their financial procedures.

Our Future
GHAP is currently entertaining proposals and inquiries from several healthcare facilities overseas.  Proposals range from general needs assessments to projects on a smaller scale such as an assessment of inventory management systems.

Potential project locations include Tanzania, Cameroon and India.
